The Ninja Guild can seem intimidating at first, as can the wondrous city of Bes Pelargic. You should take heart in the knowledge that many have walked the path before you and although a few have fallen many have succeeded.
A ninja should try to live with honour. Unlike the Ankh-Morpork assassins we care little for style beyond the necessary. Neither are we heavy-handed or thuggish like the Mano Rossa, and we certainly are not pot-heads like the Hashishim.
The ninja of Agatea are a long standing and honourable tradition within our empire. Each and every ninja is trained, tested and expected to perform their duties with honour worthy of our establishment. Some foreigners may find the concept disturbing, but it is often here that a person's honour is often more important than their life. -- [Master Yung on the way of the ninja]
Those who the Sensei deems to be unworthy can be stripped of their honour and given a dishonourable title - "the Foolish Ninja". In order to redeem themselves in the eyes of the guild the dishonoured must go to the sacred garden and perform the ritual of seppuku to expunge themselves of dishonour. Only after taking their life in this way can their honour be restored to them and the dishonourable title shed. Master Yung must witness the ceremony for it to be valid.
Honour, duty and tradition are what matter to the ninja. -- [Nokanko on the way of the ninja]
The craft of the ninja is not restricted to honourably dispatching disagreeable people to the afterlife to meet their venerable ancestors. No, we also extend our hand to pottery, flower arranging, poison making, deep meditation and embroidery.
In order to advance in the Ninja Guild you must find the wise and honourable Master Yung. You will benefit from his many years of experience and will find him most helpful if you ask him questions. Notably he can give assistance with training, information on the ninja, honour and titles.
Every so often you will be asked by Master Yung to perform some form of physical task in order to be allowed to advance. This scares many would-be ninja off. The thought of manual labour may be abhorrent to them, or they may simply not be up to the rigours of sweeping floors and watering gardens. All of the things needed to perform the chores requested by Master Yung can be located conveniently within the guild and, as with so much, a little exploration goes a long way.
Master Yung is in charge of handing out chores to any who have yet to pass the Ru Noperi. He is skilled in many techniques important to ninja and is happy to teach them to others. -- [Wun Hair Bunn on Master Yung]
Most older ninja will be happy to give you hints or tips when it comes to many aspects of the guild. However, the chores are a matter of observance and thought. If you are asking for help this probably means you have not looked around or have not put any thought into it. There is little which annoys senior ninja more than a young ninja receiving a chore and instantly asking the channel how it's done.
Once you have achieved the required level of skill you may learn commands which will enable you to perform actions relevant to the life of a ninja.
